2025 Season Preview: Southwestern Cross Country
CHULA VISTA, CA – After a summer of nonstop miles under the San Diego sun, Southwestern cross country returns to the course with one goal in mind—build on last year's strides and chase something greater as a team this fall.
California Community College teams were allowed to begin competing in meets statewide on August 22. With a few exceptions, most teams will not begin their season until August 30 (Friday) or the first or second weekend of September.
The upcoming season marks the third season under head coach Lynette Zeckua. The program has a tradition of championship success; the women having achieved a state championship in 2010 as well as individual champions in Aminat Olowora (2014, 2015) and Sarah Apgar (2006). Southwestern looks to its past to help create the future.
The JAGS
As far as the preparation, the Jaguars have wasted little time getting on the course and getting in shape for the season.
On the men's side, Southwestern is led by sophomore Bradon Guerrero and Jorge Montalvo, who qualified for the 3C2A 2024 So Cal Regional XC Championships. The top 8 features Alejandro Vargas, Alexander Peralta, Zachary Salamida, Daniel Quezada, Joshua Galindo and Ryan Gador.
For the women, freshmen Isabella Santana, Andrea Molina, Abigail Salamida, Jazmine Martinez, Nadine Garcia and sophomore Jenny Mendoza are expected lead the squad.
2025 Season Schedule
The Jaguar cross country teams will participate in five events this season beginning with the SD Kickoff at Harry Griffen Park leading up to the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Championships on October 24.
