2025 Season Preview: Southwestern Football
CHULA VISTA, CA – The wait is just about over. It is officially game week as Week 1 of the 2025 California Community College football season kicks off with a full slate of competition. Game week caps a feel-good period of spring, summer, and fall camp practice and anticipation continues to swell as the Jaguars are set to return to the field.
Southwestern is looking to start the 2025 season where it ended in 2024. Last time fans saw the Jaguars in action, they witnessed their team beat Grossmont 28-7 to close the regular season with much-needed momentum from a victory.
Coach Oscar Rodriguez's second football season at Southwestern begins Saturday, August 30 at 12:00 PM with a non-conference matchup vs. College of the Canyons
The JAGS
Nothing for Southwestern in 2025 rates as important as improvement and development on the offense, defense, and special teams. Southwestern enters the football season with substantial roster upgrades. Any major steps forward over last season require players to apply the teaching and consistently perform. With a large influx of new players, a significant cultural shift has positively impacted the program both on and off the field. This Southwestern football team feels different than year's past.
Southwestern football appears to have improved most places relative to where it was last season. And while vibes may be better going into the 2025 campaign, they won't mean much until the Jaguars start stacking wins together.
Southwestern will look to regain their competitive status and play like it belongs in the National Division of the Southern California Football Association. Other teams in San Diego County and Southern California are paying attention to Southwestern from the design and color scheme of their "Jag Black" uniforms to the local and out of state talent on the roster. This is an improved team from last year, and it should manifest as such when the schedule unfolds as the 2025 Jaguars are better equipped than they've been in a long time.
