Bio
SWC Athletics announced the hiring of Ginny Alexander as the new head coach for the Southwestern women's volleyball team. Ginny Alexander replaces Tyler Reeves.
A proven leader, program builder, and winner, Ginny brings over two decades of combined NCAA DI, DII, Junior College and club head coaching experience to the Jaguar volleyball program. Her appointment comes as Southwestern College looks to establish competitive success in volleyball.
"Ginny Alexander is a competitive and knowledgeable coach who will bring great leadership and a wealth of experience to our volleyball program," said Director of Athletics Ron Valenzuela. "We have expectations to be relevant, and our goals include competing for conference championships. Ginny has coached at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics and understands how to build a program around cornerstones of success. Ginny will reset the expectations, provide a clear vision, upgrade the talent level, and have the program buttoned-down in every aspect. I cannot wait to watch her elevate our volleyball program to new heights”.
Alexander comes to Southwestern College after head coaching stops at Florida State College at Jacksonville (NJCAA Region 8), Converse College, Utah State, Temple (Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year), Drexel, and Bowling Green State (men’s team). She also served as an assistant coach for Michigan State and Western Kentucky. During her tenure in college athletics, she created three NCAA CHAMPS Life Skills programs and replicated the same at her previous junior college. She brings a holistic approach to serving student athletes and understands how to build success. Alexander is currently the Director of Club Operations and Events for Starlings Volleyball USA, the largest girls club organization in the United States. Part of her role with Starlings is to bring resources and best practices to hundreds of club coaches and directors across the United States. The Southwestern women's volleyball program is in capable hands, given Alexander’s diverse background, which spans multiple programs and coaching levels. Her leadership, process orientation, and tangible outcome approach will be key in developing a strong and successful program at Southwestern.
“I am extremely grateful and excited to take over the volleyball program at Southwestern College. There is a rich history of competitive junior college volleyball in San Diego as well as an influx of current players and prospective players in this area. I believe my diverse coaching background and experience can provide a unique opportunity for players to grow as student athletes, competitors and as humans. My plan is to build up the SWC volleyball team around a community model of success”.
