Women's Jaguars Track & Field Open Strong at PCAC Championships

The Southwestern College Jaguars Track & Field teams made a strong statement at the 2026 PCAC Conference Championships, with the women's team surging into first place after day one and the men remaining in the hunt for fourth place. Through five of 20 scored events, the Jaguar women lead the conference with 45 points, while the men sit in fourth with 12 points.

The Jaguar women excelled across the board, scoring points in distance, throws, jumps, and sprints to build an early team lead.

Sophomore Natalie Chavarria set the tone with a fourth-place finish in the 10,000 meters, clocking 41:53.50. Freshman Isabella Santana contributed valuable points with a sixth-place finish in 43:28.61.

In the throwing events, freshman Sophia Norgen captured the shot-put title with a throw of 9.66 meters and took second in the discus at 25.26 meters. Donna Lopez-Landers added a pair of third-place finishes in the shot put (9.50m) and discus (23.16m), while Ariana Enriquez also scored in both events to extend the Jaguars' lead.

Freshman Serenity Chase added to the tally with a fifth-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.25 meters.

On the track, Southwestern positioned itself well for Saturday's sprint finals. Camila Mendoza advanced to both the 100-meter and 200-meter finals with times of 12.76 and 26.42, respectively. Korina Luna also qualified in both sprints, running 13.06 in the 100 and 26.29 in the 200. Analia Martinez advanced to the 100-meter final as well, giving the Jaguars a strong presence in the short sprints.

Looking Ahead

With the women leading the conference and the men poised to make a move, Southwestern is well-positioned going into the finals. The Jaguars showed depth and determination on day one and will look to carry that momentum to a strong championship finish this weekend.
