Jaguars Gain Momentum in PCAC Rankings as Championship Season Approaches

At the halfway point of the season, the Southwestern College Jaguars Track & Field teams are making waves in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC), showing off their depth and talent as they prepare for the postseason.

Men's Team Shines Across Events
Sophomore Micheal Boone has emerged as a leader for the men's squad, currently ranked 5th in the 100 meters. Boone also powers the Jaguars' relay teams, with the 4x100 relay sitting at 2nd and the 4x400 at 4th in the conference. Jacob Shaw, another standout sophomore, is ranked 8th in the 400 meters and 6th in both the long jump and triple jump, while also contributing to top relay teams. 

Freshman Christian Griggs has quickly proven himself, taking 6th in the 110m hurdles, 7th in high jump, and 9th in triple jump. Distance runner Anthony Valcazar is currently 10th in the 3000m steeplechase, and freshman thrower Troy McFarlane is ranked 6th in shot put, 8th in discus, and 7th in javelin, further strengthening the team's presence in field events.

Women's Team Dominates in Key Events
On the women's side, sophomore Camila Mendoza continues her outstanding season, ranked 5th in the 100m, 9th in the 200m, 2nd in high jump, and 5th in long jump. Mendoza also anchors both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, each holding 3rd place in the PCAC.
Freshman Korina Luna has made an immediate impact, ranking 10th in both the 100m and 200m, and 5th in the 400m, while also contributing to both relays. In distance events, Nadine Garcia and Isabella Santana are ranked 8th and 9th in the 1500m, while Isabella holds 9th in the 5,000m, 1st in the 10,000m, and 3rd in the steeplechase. Natalie Chavarria also excels, sitting 2nd in the 10,000m. 

Freshman Serenity Chase adds versatility, ranked 7th in the 100m hurdles, 6th in both high jump and long jump, and is a key relay runner. In the throws, the Jaguars are especially strong: Sophia Norgen leads with 1st in shot put, 4th in discus, and 8th in javelin. Donna López-Lander follows closely with 2nd in shot put, 3rd in discus, and 7th in javelin, while Arianna Enriquez rounds out the group with 5th in shot put, 2nd in discus, and 9th in javelin.

Looking Ahead
With strong PCAC rankings and depth across all events, both the men's and women's teams are well-positioned for a big postseason. As championship season approaches, the Jaguars' momentum and team spirit are setting the stage for a strong finish.
