Women’s Soccer Aims to Stay Unbeaten, Continues Road Swing
CHULA VISTA, CA – The unbeaten Southwestern College women's soccer team (2-0-1) kicks off its September slate next Thursday, Sept. 9 in Rancho Cucamonga, California versus Chaffey College (2-0). The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
The Jags look to keep its season-opening unbeaten streak alive as it began 2025 with a 1-0 win over Mt. San Jacinto, a draw with Santiago Canyon at DeVore Stadium, and a 3-0 victory at Fullerton last week, moving its overall record to 2-0-1 on the year.
In the win over Mt. San Jacinto (2-1-1), freshman midfielder Vianey Romo netted her first collegiate goal to lift the Jaguars to a 1-0 victory over the Eagles. Romo struck early in the 4th minute, while sophomore goalkeeper Aaliyah Campbell and the Southwestern defense locked down the clean sheet.
Last Tuesday, the Jags battled to a 1-1 draw against Santiago Canyon (1-0-1), highlighted by freshman midfielder Genasis Carachure's first career goal. After the Hawks scored in the 13th minute, Southwestern broke through in the 56th when Carachure put it into the net. Despite additional chances generated by Southwestern, Santiago Canyon preserved the draw.
In the victory at Fullerton (1-1), Southwestern jumped out of the gate quickly in the 4th minute with an unassisted goal by freshman midfielder/defender Sydni Livingstone and then again at the 29th minute with a goal by freshman forward Melany Perez, assisted by fellow freshman midfielder/defender Rebeca Perez. With her second goal of the afternoon, Melany Perez secured the victory for the Jaguars at the 74th minute mark. Aaliyah Campbell and the Jag defense earned their second shutout in three matches.
The Jags have a potent mix of confidence, emotional want, physical drive, and soccer talent. And after three matches in 7 days, although early – remain undefeated.
