Jaguars Prepare for Massive Week of Soccer

CHULA VISTA, CA – The Southwestern College (4-4-2) men's soccer team got back to even .500 with a Friday afternoon victory at DeVore Stadium. The Jaguars came back from a 1-0 deficit with a stellar performance and second-half hat trick from Jesus Valenzuela to turn the game around and beat Miramar (0-5-2), 4-2.

The Jaguar's dropped their final pair of non-conference matches of the season against nationally ranked Arizona Western (9-1), 1-3 and East Los Angeles (4-2-5), 1-2.  "They're a very good team and a good representative of the CCC2A, they gave us all we could handle, and it was tight there until the end," Arizona Western head coach Kenny Dale said.

Southwestern's record is 1-0-2 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play.  In a tightly played contest, the Jaguars drew 1-1 with Mesa (Sept. 26).  Against Palomar (Sept. 30), the Jaguars found an equalizing goal in 68th minute to secure a 3-3 tie.  The last time on pitch, Southwestern won their first conference and home match of the season versus Miramar (Oct. 3).

The Jaguars have outscored opponents 21-18 to date this season.  Christian Quezada and Jesus Valenzuela lead Southwestern with 5 goals apiece.  Andres Ramirez has scored two goals so far this season.

UP NEXT

The men's soccer team has continued to strengthen as the season has gone on, and it doesn't get much better than this for October soccer.  In the midst of what could turn out to be the toughest stretch of the schedule, Southwestern will hit the road this week with clear definable expectations in their performance with two massive conference games versus ranked opponents.

No. 14 San Diego City (5-2-4) welcomes the Burgundy and Gold to downtown San Diego for a Tuesday afternoon match on Oct. 7 at 1:00 PM.  No. 10 Cuyamaca (8-1-1), the defending California state champion, will host Southwestern in Rancho San Diego on Friday afternoon on Oct. 10 at 3:30 PM.
