No Longer Unblemished: Southwesterns' Undefeated Stretch Ends

CHULA VISTA, CA – The Jaguars (6-1, 3-1 National Southern Conference) opened the season with six wins, earned a No. 4 ranking in the state and No. 13 nationally – the highest ever.

Southwesterns' undefeated stretch ended at home in a high scoring affair against perennial power Riverside City College (5-2, 3-1), 69-42. Southwestern could not keep its perfect season going, as the game itself got away early from the Jaguars. The Tigers raced out to a 21 point lead and never looked back. And at the end of the game, Riverside had 27 more points than Southwestern.

However bleak things may have appeared afterwards, Southwestern lost a game. That's all. Maybe Riverside was better. Maybe Southwestern mis-fit, mis tackled and simply had a lackluster overall performance. Whatever the reason, losing is a part of sports and turning setbacks, hindsight, and reflection into lessons for corrections and growth is an element of success. The Jags won't waste this loss by feeling sorry for themselves. Instead, it will be examined, and the program will work towards improvement.

Going undefeated in college football is no easy task. Even the most capable teams can lose on any given week, and 2025 is no exception. The three remaining unbeaten 3C2A National teams are No. 1 San Mateo (NCFC-Bay 6), No. 2 Golden West (SCFA-Central) and No. 3 Ventura. (SCFA-Northern).

Southwestern slipped to No. 12 in the latest JC Athletic Bureau's poll for the California Community College Football Coaches Association and No. 25 in the JCGridiron.com Dirty 30 National Rankings.

RANKED vs. RANKED
Southwestern has two remaining regular season games against ranked teams and the Jags still have a legitimate shot at a conference title. So they will either earn their way into a playoff spot or be removed from the picture entirely.
