Southwestern routed Orange Coast College 71 - 10 on Saturday
COSTA MESA, CA – SWC (2-0) piled up 588 total yards of offense, averaged 10 yards per play and finished with its most points in the Oscar Rodriguez era. Southwestern overwhelmed and routed Orange Coast College 71 - 10.
Coming off a season opening win, the Jaguars responded with purpose and the hunger to get better and play at a level they are capable of playing. The victory was more than just aesthetics. It was a punishing physical style of football in all three phases of game last Saturday. The Jaguars were explosive, dominant, and outmatched the Pirates. It was a performance where the entire team shined and as many players as possible participated in the game.
While Southwestern may have once been considered one of the 'loveable' underdogs in the National Division of the Southern California Football Association, they can no longer build a DI model program quietly. The season has arrived in which Southwestern is not so quiet anymore. One would be delusional to underestimate this 2025 Jaguar football team.
Southwestern made the biggest jump of the week, climbing ten positions to No. 12 in the JC Athletic Bureau's poll of California Community College Football Coaches members.
The Jaguars opened the season unranked in every preseason poll and also moved up seven spots to a No. 30 national ranking after burying the Pirates.
Per the JCGridiron Dirty 30 Rankings, "The biggest early surprise of the 2025 campaign has to be Southwestern College. The Jaguars improved to 2-0 after throttling Orange Coast, 71-10, on Saturday. Southwestern now make its first-ever appearance in the Dirty 30 at No. 30 after putting up 588 yards on the Pirates."
Expect the Jags to maintain a healthy respect for all opponents, including the Vikings of Long Beach City College. Optics can be deceiving. And the coaches and players of Southwestern will take nothing for granted and relentlessly pursue victory no matter who is next on the schedule.
The undefeated Jaguars play their third game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Long Beach City College (0-2) at 1:00 p.m.
