Lance Hickman enters his first season as an assistant coach/recruiter of the SWC coaching staff. He has had the opportunity to coach many boys and girls, of different ages in a wide variety of different sports. Coaching has many qualifications, one of which, but not limited to, is life lessons. He believes the attributes you learn in sports translate into your daily living requirements. His biggest philosophy is, “Never forget where you came from.”
Mr. Hickman has been coaching in different sports for close to 20 years, from Little League, Youth Football, to Piranhas club basketball. In the late 90’s, he coached two years at Mar Vista High School. The girl’s varsity basketball team made the CIF playoffs in their second year for the first time in school history.
In 2010, Mr. Hickman had the honor of joining the Piranhas Basketball Club Team. He states, “I have been very fortunate to coach with Ms. Eleazar. She has brilliant basketball mind, numerous positive philosophies, and she really cares about the direction are youth will take in the future.”
Mr. Hickman played and lettered in different sports growing up to include, but not limited to basketball. He continued to play basketball in college and the United States Navy.
In 1993, Mr. Hickman received his Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Science, Magnum Cum Laude. In 1998, he received his Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology. Mr. Hickman currently is CEO of Varsity Team, Incorporated, a non-profit organization that counsels and houses over 24 at-risk teens. He also teaches at University of Phoenix.
